Over the summer a small group from Kirk Session interviewed a potential deaconess for the congregation and were very impressed with the one candidate that applied. In fact we were 'blown away' and were assured of God's leading us both together. Our new deaconess is Roberta Irvine. Roberta is originally from Ballynahinch and has recently been serving in 1st Comber Presbyterian for the past five years and before that completed her probationary time in Bloomfield Presbyterian.
Roberta will be joining us on 1st November and she will be installed on the 7th November by the Templepatrick Presbytery.  As you read this Roberta is beginning a 7 week sabbatical in Mexico and would covet our prayers as she knows very little of what she will be doing and what will be expected of her. At present all she knows is that she is mentoring probationary deaconesses from the Presbyterian Church in Mexico (PCM). We look forward with great anticipation to her coming and know that we will be blessed by her presence among us.

The Moderator's Appeal:
We will be lifting a retiring offering after the services on Sunday 12th & 19th September for the Flood Victims in Pakistan. If you wish to make the most of your gift then please use the Gift Aid envelopes which will be available on those two Sundays.
Your contributions will primarily be channelled through our partners in Tearfund and Christian Aid. Both agencies have been working in Pakistan for a long time (Christian Aid since 1954) and are already providing emergency food and medical assistance through their well-established networks.
A portion of your contributions will also be donated to the Presbyterian Church of Pakistan, a partner of PCI through the Board of Mission Overseas. This symbolises our standing alongside our suffering sisters and brothers in a time of particular need.
